HAM Foundation continues water outreach in Kwara North, begins 22 boreholes in Baruten
HAM Foundation has commenced its much-anticipated water outreach initiative in Baruten Local Government Area (LGA), aiming to provide 22 boreholes—one in each ward—to enhance access to clean water.
This development follows the foundation’s earlier interventions across other LGAs in Kwara North, where it successfully drilled 65 boreholes in Patigi, 55 in Edu, 19 in Moro, and 15 in Kaiama, totaling 154 boreholes.
However, the Baruten phase was initially delayed due to seasonal constraints.
A statement jointly signed by Suleiman Abduljalil , Lead Project and Communication and Omomeji Nafisat NJFP Fellow at HAM Foundation, stated that with the latest intervention, the foundation’s initiative will ensure that every ward in Kwara North has at least one borehole, bringing the total number of water projects to 176.
According to HAM Foundation, the project is a non-partisan and non-religious effort solely aimed at giving back to society. Community stakeholders are actively involved in selecting borehole locations through broad consultations.
The foundation emphasized that its water intervention aligns with the Kwara State government’s commitment to improving water access. Beyond drilling boreholes, the initiative includes educating communities on hygiene, safe water consumption, and sustainable maintenance practices.
HAM foundation added that by tackling water scarcity, it aims to reduce waterborne diseases, improve public health, and enhance the overall quality of life in rural communities.
It stated that the drilling in Baruten is expected to be completed before the next fall season.
The foundation assured the public of continuous updates on the progress of the project.
