Gunmen attack Taraba, kill four, kidnap village head, three others

Gunmen, on Tuesday, killed four people, kidnapped the village head of Maigemu and three other persons at Kwatan Nanido and Maigemu villages, in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State.

A source, Dr. Bulus Yari, a commercial bus driver in Kaduna said that the bandits stormed the Local Government Area around 1.00am on Tuesday, adding that among the abducted people were two housewives.

Yari revealed that the bandits, who came on motorcycles, operate from a forest, near River Benue.

According to him, on several occasions, the bandits usually terrorise residents of the community, forcing fishermen and dry season farmers to abandon their businesses.

While confirming incident, the Chief of Mutumbiyu community, Justice Sani Muhammed (retd.), called for the deployment of soldiers to his domain to checkmate the activities of the bandits.

He appreciated the local vigilante for guarding their villages all through the night, calling for more support from sister security agencies.

Effort to reach the Taraba State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Usman Abdullahi, proved abortive as he did not pick his calls and did not reply to text messages sent to him.
