Gunmen, in the early hours of Tuesday, launched a deadly ambush on a joint security taskforce team consisting of soldiers, policemen, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps personnel in Umualumaku community, Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.
The assailants targeted the security officials, who were traveling in two security trucks, setting the vehicles ablaze and leaving no survivors.
Punch Newspaper, quoting a security operative under anonymity, said that reinforcement teams have been dispatched to the crime scene with the aim of apprehending the suspects and recovering the bodies of the slain security personnel.
A community resident, who chose to remain anonymous for security reasons, recounted seeing the security agents only moments before the tragic attack occurred. The incident has plunged the community into a state of turmoil and uncertainty.
A video clip showing the gruesome attack, where the security agents were set on fire inside the two vehicles, has also surfaced online.
When reached for comment, Henry Okoye, the spokesperson for the police in Imo State, confirmed the tragic development but requested additional time to gather comprehensive details about the incident.
