Guardiola dismisses title defence talks as Kane sinks Man City
Pep Guardiola has dismissed defending their premier league title after losing to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Harry Kane’s lone goal was all the hosts needed to delay Manchester City pursuit of the league leaders Arsenal.
Arsenal’s 1 nil loss to Everton on Saturday had presented an opportunity for the citizens to reduce the five points gap between them and the Gunners in the event they won the Sunday’s game.
Speaking after the game, the Spanish tactician said his team’s main focus is to think about the next game and not in position to discuss their chance at the title
“We are not in the position to think about being champions. [We can only think about] the next game. he told skysports
“Tottenham have a fantastic team, and they punish you. They have a lot of quality up front. [We must] give a lot of credit to them.
“We started really well, but after we made a mistake, they punished us. At 1-0 down, it is different. It is not easy. We dropped three points.
Key Opta facts noted that “Manchester City have lost all five of their matches against Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, failing to score a single goal despite having 84 shot attempts”
Guardiola however hopes that the record changes when he said “Sooner or later, it is going to change, but it is strange we haven’t scored one goal.
“To find an explanation is not easy. We found the positions, [we] made good balls to the channels, but [we] missed [that] last action up front.” He concluded.
