Awoniyi’s lone goal earns Nottingham Forest first top flight away win since 1999
Nottingham forest would have Nigeria Super Eagles striker to thank for delivering their first away win in the season through his lone goal against Southampton.
Awoniyi who won the team’s man of the match award as they held Chelsea to a draw in their new year’s day match scored his fourth goal of the season in the 27th minutes to condemn the saints to their six consecutive defeats.
The important win saw a life turnaround for the Forest who have now moved out relegation zone and are now 15th on the table with 17 points
It was also an historic day for Steve Cooper’s boys as they earned their first away win in the top flight since 1999.
Their last top flight away win was a 2-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers in May 1999.
Again, his heroic performance also saw Awoniyi revelling in another man of the match award.
