Kwara Youths Mobilization For Good Governance (KWYMGG) has asked the Kwara State Government to lift the 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew imposed on the state.
The Governor had October 23 ordered a 24-hour curfew in the state capital following wanton looting and destruction of properties in part of Ilorin.
AbdulRazaq however reviewed the curfew from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. on October 25.
Meanwhile, the group in a statement jointly signed by its chairman, Aminu Ridwan Akota, and coordinator, Issa Lukman Oluwadare commended the government’s swift action to bring back sanity to the state after the looting but decried the refusal of the governor to lift the curfew days after normalcy is returned.
The statement read in part, “This is for the obvious reason that the hardships which the Curfew is inflicting on the innocent citizenry can never be overlooked. Looking at the stress majority of the people go through while struggling to get back to their various destinations at the wee hours to the commencement of the curfew to avoid the wrath of the military men who have manned some strategic places to enforce the Law calls for urgent action.
“Moreover, it’s also worthy of note that, this Curfew also affects the means of livelihood of some others who deal with goods or services which can only be marketed in the evening thus, resulting in an economic shortage for the state itself.
“Therefore, It’s on this note that we hereby call on the governor to not because of the interest of some few individuals who sees the opportunity of the Curfew as an avenue of enriching their own pockets to jeopardize the interests of his common citizens but instead be responsive to their hue and cry by calling off the Curfew immediately.”
