Group empowers porters, urges beneficiaries to quit business

An Ilorin based charity organization, Adirahf Foundation on Wednesday, 26th February, in a way of empowerment distributed goods worth huge amount of money to Porters in Ilorin.

The Informant247 gathered that the philanthropic foundation empowers eight Porters across four major markets in the state capital.

The markets includes: Mandates, Itamo, Ago and Ipata Markets.

Some of the goods donated are sacks of rice, beans, maize among other staple grains.

While addressing journalists, the co-ordinator and co founder, Kiyesola Ismail noted that the organization is not acting within political climate, saying that the micro empowerment exercise is a mechanism of mitigating poverty among women in the state.

“The person that funded the program visited Ilorin some months back to donate foodstuff to people at mandates market and she saw many porters rushing to get loads from people who came to buy goods the market. As a result, she was emotionally moved and she decided to empower them.”

In appreciation of the humanitarian gesture, one of the beneficiaries, Zainab Saka thanked the foundation as she prayed for the sponsor of the school who craved anonymity.

Mrs. Zainab however vowed not to go back to porting.

She further maintained that most of them are forced into porting by current economic realities.

Olushola Abdulrasheed, Chairman Committee on Reserch of the foundation also called on the beneficiaries to be satisfied with the goods and investigate how much people sell it, saying that they should use the opportunity given to them quit porting.
