Grandeur as Jurist, Hon. Abdulyakeen, launches book in honour of pioneer CJ in Kwara

A jurist at the Kwara State judiciary, Justice Ahmad Abdulyakeen, will today, (28/012021) unveil an historical book in honour of the pioneer Chief Justice (CJ), late Justice Honourable Saidu Kawu, of the state.

Recalled that late Hon. Kawu who was the Ma’adaki of Ilorin, was Kwara CJ from 1975 to 1985.

The book which will be launched by 10am at the Banquet hall, opposite Government House, chronicled the enormous contribution of the late CJ, the Ma’adaki of Ilorin, to the development of the state judicial system.

To many people, the late jurist, who was the father of the incumbent Chief judge, Justice Durosinlohun Kawu, trained many legal legal practitioners who have today become a force to reckoned with in the society.

The author, while speaking with this medium, said those who have passed through Kwara Judiciary are product of the late CJ, and would always own him a profound gratitude.

“The quest to profile his uncommon and lofty contribution to the development of the state judiciary prompted my action to write the book. Baba (late Kawu) has laid good foundation of what we call Kwara Judiciary today.

“Everyone that passed through judiciary are product of the late jurist….. He was CJ from 1975 to 1985. First indigenous state judge of Kwara State. He was the first person to be celebrated from high court to the Supreme court from Kwara State in 1984…” Justice Abdulyakeen said.

Brief profile of Justice Abdulyakeen

Justice Abdulyakeen hailed from Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State. He attended Aldyaudeen, Isale Balode, Ilorin and Barakat community secondary school, also in Ilorin.

After the completion of his secondary school education in 1997, he proceeded to the Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto, where he obtained his bachelor degree of laws in both Common and Islamic law in 2004. Subsequently, he attended the Nigerian Law School, Lagos, and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2006. Afterwards, he obtained his master of law (LL.M) from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, in 2015.

The author started his legal practise with A.A Ibraheem & Co. but established his own law film known as A.S Abdulyakeen & Co. in 2014. As fate will have it, in 2014, he was appointed to the lower cadre of the Kwara State Judiciary and that same year, he became the Area Court judge, the position he occupies till date.

Past CJs in Kwara State

The first Chief Justice in the state was Hon. Justice Saidu Kawu who was in office between 1975 and 1984, afterwards, four others held the position namely; Justice Timothy Oyeyipo who served from 1984 to 2005, Justice Saka Yusuf also had a short stint between 2006 and 2007, Justice Elelu resumed office thereafter and served from 2008 till 2012. Justice Bamigbola equally served in 2014 while the current serving CJ took over the mantle in 2014.
