Gov’ship Elections: We’ve learnt from errors of February 25 elections — INEC

11 political parties, 19 candidates to contest in Plateau bye-elections The Informant247

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said the commission has left its lessons from the February 25 presidential and national assembly elections.

The Informant247 observes that presidential and national assembly elections have generated reactions and controversy, as opposition parties claimed that the elections were not free and fair.

The opposition parties claimed that the electoral commission did not transmit the results of the elections electronically as promised by the INEC before the elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has postponed the governorship and state house of assembly elections earlier planned for Saturday, March 11 2023.

The inability of the commission to kick-start the re-configuration of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines necessitated the postponement of the elections.

The electoral commission identified the need to reconfigure the BVAS machines which were used for the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections.

“You know that the BVAS re-configuration would take three or four days and since they would all be moved to the headquarters in Abuja, the machines would be re-configured and deployed to the various states and finally to the polling units,” one of the officials said.

Festus Okoye, the national commissioner for INEC, while granting a television interview on Monday March 13, 2023 said: “valuable lessons” would be applied to the upcoming weekend’s elections for the state assembly and governorship elections.

“I’m sure that by Tuesday when we hope to complete the resettling of the BVAS for the governorship and state assembly elections, the results in all the places where elections were conducted would have been pushed to the accreditation backend,” he said.
