Governors scramble for rights to host 2028 National Sports Festival
No fewer than ten states have submitted bid to host the 2028 edition of the National Sports Festival.
This was disclosed by the Chairman of National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, on Sunday while addressing Journalist at World press Conference held at the ongoing 22nd National Sports Festival in Ogun State.
He said “We have called for bid for the 2028 and 2030 editions, and now already we have more than ten states who have confirmed their bid to host the next 2028 edition, which is a good omen for us”
He noted that the benchmark set by Ogun State has endeared the Festival to many other state governments who are now more interested in hosting the multi sporting event.
Dikko also revealed that the commission is committed to keeping a definitive calendar for the festival, in order to enable optimum preparation and planning.
“We have agreed at the last council of State meeting to keep a definitive calendar for Sports Festival to be between November and December of every festival year, and should in case we have to move it forward, it should not be more than January” Dikko remarked.
It would be recalled that Enugu State has already been confirmed as the host of the next edition of the National Sports Festival which will hold in 2026.
