The Nigerian Governors Forum, NGF, has sent message of warning to the Federal Government not to sanction the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.
According to the forum of governors, the Nigerian Government should instead look for how to resolve the controversial issues, to protect the interest of the students and the country at large.
The Chairman of the NGF and the Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, made this revelation in Abuja, the nation’s capital on Thursday after the meeting of the forum.
Meanwhile, the forum of governors has declined the plan of the Nigerian Government to turn the National Integrated Power Plants (NIPPs) to a private entity.
The plants are: Calabar Generation Company Ltd, Benin Generation Company Ltd, Olorunsogo Generation Company Ltd, Geregu Generation Company Ltd, and Omotosho Generation Company Ltd.
Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi said: “We examined the issues relating to the proposed privatisation of the power project and we took a decision that at this point in time, the NGF is opposed to the sale of any of the plants until appropriate steps have been taken that would take into consideration the interest of states that are also equity holders in those plants.
“We’ll continue to do whatever we can to ensure the resources of Nigeria stay with the Nigerian people and are not filtered away in a manner we can’t explain,” he added.
The Governor revealed that the forum of governors declined the plan of the government to privatize because all the concerned stakeholders were not property carried along in the matter.
President Muhammadu Buhari, who was represented by the vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, at the meeting, commissioned a multi-billion naira NGF complex at Maitama, Abuja.
