Governor Wike delivers all Rivers senatorial seats to PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has come victorious across the three (3) senatorial districts in Rivers State.

The Informant247 understands that the 3 senatorial seats were: Rivers West, Rivers East, and Rivers South-East.

The spokesperson of the electoral commission in Rivers State, Geraldine Ekelemu, announced the outcome of the national assembly elections on Saturday.

The INEC announced Mpigi Barinada of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP the winner of the Rivers south-east senatorial district with 53,734 votes.

He defeated the guber candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ngofa Nyimenuate who had 24,123 votes.

Banigo Harry of the PDP, according to INEC, won the Rivers west senatorial district with 67,668 votes.

He defeated Asita Asita of the APC who gathered 32,572 votes.

The electoral commission also declared Onyesoh Allwell of the PDP came victorious in Rivers east senatorial seat with 134,283 votes.

He conquered Benjamin Okwuwolu of the Labour Party (LP) who had 74,725 votes.

The Informant247 recalls that before the February 25 presidential election, Governor Wike revealed his intent not to support the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar; unless the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu resigns his appointment.

Wike was one of the members of G5’ — a group of 5 aggrieved governors of the PDP.

Before the February 25 presidential election, the G5 Governors said the resignation of Ayu was a precondition to support Atiku’s presidency.

The G5 PDP governors were:

Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia),

Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu),

Samuel Ortom (Benue),

Seyi Makinde (Oyo) and

Nyesom Wike (Rivers).
