Gobir Foundation take up Oke-Suna Primary School, allot N100m for development.
Gobir Foundation, a non governmental organization in Kwara State has on Thursday taken up the first primary school in Kwara State, Oke-Suna Primary School Ilorin.
The founder of the organization, Waziri Yakub Gobir while disclosing the adoption of the primary school, he said that the organization has set aside N100 million for development of the school over the next five years.
Oke-Suna Primary School was founded in 1915, a year after the amalgamation of Nigeria, has produced several eminent personalities including the 9th Enir of Ilorin Alhaji Zulukarnaini Gambari. Alhaji Mohammed Gobir the first Waziri of Ilorin was a head master at the school from 1931 to 1934. The late Ambassador Abubakar Garba Gobir graduated from the school in 1958. He later became a teacher in the school. Alhaji Salihu Gobir was also a head master between 1963 to 1965. The Gobir family therefore has a very strong affiliation with the school. This explains Waziri Yakubu Gobir’s interest in adopting Okesuna Primary School.
Alhaji Gobir popularly known as an illustrious son of the Ilorin Emirate, said that he is delighted to complement the efforts of the State Government.
Waziri Gobir also said that his intervention would be a life time approach, adding that failure of other educational interventions in the country is lack of continuity.
He preached that primary education is the basis of future academic excellence in every child. Adding that whatever level attained in education is affected when the primary level is faulty.
He, therefore, commended the teaching staff of the school for sustaining academic excellence that the school is noted for over the years.
Also speaking, the Education Secretary of the Ilorin East Local Government Area, Alhaji Abdulahi Hassan, said areas of urgent attention in the school include provision of furniture and toilet facilities, adding that “there is no single toilet for both students and teachers since the school B was established.”
“Other needs are repair of school borehole, equipping of computer room, science kits, supply of ceiling fans, school furniture, structural repairs, etc.” Abdullahi Hassan concluded
