Kwara govt commences ‘massive’ demolition of illegal buildings – The Informant247
The Kwara State Physical Planning Authority (KPPA) has announced that it has commenced massive demolition of illegal structures across the state.
The General Manager of the Authority, Tpl. Sikiru Abiodun Oyinloye said that shops in two different locations along Fate road and the lower Sabo line, both in the Ilorin metropolis have been demolished because they were awarded Certificate of Temporary Occupancy (CTO) by the defunct Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
According to him, “…such building or shop with CTO could be demolished anytime by the authority upon the service of just seven-day notice to vacate the property.
“As at the time they were presented with the CTO document by the Kwara State Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, they were also given prototype.”
It is mandatory, Oyinloye stated, for all landowners to approach the PPA for advice before they could erect any structure on their land, pointing out that the affected shop owners were served letters to vacate their structures severally.
He said the affected shops have earlier been marked for demolition, noting that they were built in places where the government reserved for electricity poles, road set back, walkways, and other public use.
Oyinloye, who solicited support from the media towards educating the people on the danger associated with illegal structures, however, warned that demolition of illegal structures is a continuous exercise.
