Give me 7 days to resolve scarcity of cash — Buhari tells Nigerians

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday appealed to Nigerians to give him 7 days to find solutions to the scarcity of new naira notes which has become a problem across Nigeria.

This came following the decision of the Central Bank of Nigeria to replace the currency with new notes.

Buhari made this revelation while meeting with the Progressive Governors Forum on Friday.

The Governors on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC were at the presidential villa to discuss possible solutions to the lingering scarcity of the new notes.

“Some banks are inefficient and only concerned about themselves.”

He added that, “even if a year is added, problems associated with selfishness and greed won’t go away.”

“I will revert to the CBN and the Minting Company. There will be a decision one way or the other in the remaining 7 days of the 10-day extension,” Buhari assured.

The Governors said they were in support of the economic policy, but discovered that the people in their constituencies were passing through hard moments while trying to get the new notes.

They proposed that the old and new notes be allowed to be in circulation concurrently till the end of the year.
