Fuel tanker bursts into flames at filling station in Kwara

A fully loaded fuel tanker burst into flames at a filling station in Alapa town, Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State on Monday.

The spokesman of the Kwara State Fire Brigade, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, confirmed this incident, saying the fire incident occurred at about 18:19hrs.

He said it occurred at MM filling station along Kaiama road in Alapa town, disclosing that no life was lost.

Adekunle stressed that one Engineer Rasaq alerted the Kwara State Fire Service on the fire incident.

He added that the blazing fire had engulfed the whole tanker due to the terrible nature of the incident when the firefighters arrived at the scene.

It was gathered that the firemen were able to put out the fire on time and also prevented the burning tanker from affecting the filling station in the vicinity.

The spokesman of the Kwara State Fire Brigade stated that the incident was caused by a mechanical fault in the petrol tanker.

The Director of the state fire service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa advised the general public to be more careful and urged the fuel filling stations to procure all the necessary safety equipment at their various stations.
