Former PDP political office holders under Saraki, Maigida’s govt declare support for APC in Kwara
Scores of former political office holders who served under the administrations of former Kwara State governors Bukola Saraki and Abdulfatah Ahmed have declared support for the All Progressives Congress (APC), Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, President Bola Tinubu and the party’s 2027 governorship candidate, Rt. Hon. Danladi Yakubu.
The former office holders, under the Forum of Former Political Office Holders, Kwara State chapter, announced their decision at a general meeting held in Ilorin on October 6, 2026.
According to a statement signed by the forum’s chairman, Hon. Sufyan Kayode Muritala, and secretary, Hon. Peter Akindele Oloruntoba, members drawn from the 16 local government areas of the state unanimously agreed to align with the APC.
The forum attributed the decision to the efforts of Hon. Oba Magaji Abdukadri, the leader of the Kwara State House of Assembly and APC flagbearer for Magaji Ngeri Constituency, whom it credited with promoting unity and inclusive governance.
The group declared its support for Governor Abdulrazaq, President Tinubu, Yakubu and all APC candidates in Kwara State.
Explaining the reasons for their decision, the former office holders said their experience under previous administrations had enabled them to assess the development strides of the current APC-led government.
“As former office holders who served under PDP, we can attest to the difference in developmental strides of APC Government in Kwara.
“His Excellency, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has transformed Kwara with visible projects and worker-friendly policies. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is yielding results for Nigeria. In Rt. Hon. Danladi Yakubu, we see a competent successor to sustain this legacy,” the statement read.
The forum also commended Magaji Abdukadri for his role in facilitating the political realignment.
It subsequently passed a vote of confidence in Abdulrazaq, Tinubu, Yakubu and Magaji Abdukadri, pledging to mobilise grassroots support for APC candidates in the forthcoming elections.
The announcement marks a political realignment by the former PDP office holders ahead of the 2027 general elections.
