A downpour that started in the late hours of Wednesday in Ilorin has rendered over 100 people displaced and one missing due to heavy flooding.
The flood destroyed several buildings including shops and farms after the heavy downpour that started around 5pm on Wednesday evening.
The 21-year-old daughter Lateefat Adeyemi who fell into the canal during yesterday’s heavy downpour whereabouts still remains unknown. Miss Lateefat, a student of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin was swept by a flash flood in the late hours of Wednesday and has not been found as at the time of filling this report.
The Kwara state governor who visited the scene this morning has deployed a search and rescue team to find the whereabouts of the young lady.
The governor while addressing newsmen said he has directed men of the Kwara State Fire Service to immediately evacuate those who were trapped in a church located around the canal where the unfortunate incident occurred and reunite them with their families.
Governor AbdulRazaq reiterated that his administration places premium on all lives in Kwara, assured the family and Kwarans of his commitment to ensuring lives and properties of the teeming masses is secured.
AbdulRazaq while consoling Lateefat’s family and all well wishers said “accept our sincere concern and empathy to you and your family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. I assure you of government support in this trying time in ensuring young and promising Lateefat is found.”
