Chaos erupted on Wednesday at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport following a fire outbreak incident.
According to reports, at approximately 0750 hours, a smoke incident was detected in Terminal 1 of the airport, situated in Ikeja, Lagos.
The source of the smoke was traced to the basement of the Terminal building.
Abdullahi Yakubu-Funtua, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), said, “In swift response, dedicated firefighters from the Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Services (ARFFS) of Murtala Muhammed International Airport took immediate action, successfully bringing the situation under control.”
In adherence to their commitment to passenger, staff, and overall airport user safety, the Terminal building was swiftly evacuated due to the smoke affecting certain areas of the facility.
FAAN assures the public that the situation is now under control and reaffirms its dedication to safety, security, and passenger comfort.
