Fire outbreak caused by neglected cooking gas destroys multiple rooms in Ilorin

A fire incident on Friday night has affected 89 of 104 units of rooms at No. Ejiba Road, beside Ejiba Bridge, Ilorin, Kwara State.

It was gathered that the inferno, which occurred around 8 pm, was caused by a gas cooker left unattended.

According to a statement issued by the spokesperson of the State Fire Service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, the firefighters who responded swiftly and arrived at the scene of the incident met several rooms ablaze.

Meanwhile, demonstrating exceptional skill and efficiency, the firefighters could contain the fire.

“Out of 104 rooms in the storey building, they successfully saved 89, with only 15 affected by the inferno.”

The statement, however, quoted the director of the State Fire Service, Prince Falade John, urging the public to prioritise safety at all times while emphasising that this was the second fire incident within a week linked to negligence in handling gas cookers.
