‘electrical power surge’, fire destroys building in Ilorin

A building of ‘four flats with two bedrooms each’ has been gutted by fire at Unity area in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.

The cause of the fire outbreak, which occurred on Thursday, was attributed to an electrical power surge.

The spokesperson for Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, said the incident happened at Crescent Street behind Access Bank, Unity Area in Ilorin.

He added that the fire affected one of the flats before it was put out by the Fire Service, thereby preventing it from spreading to other blocks.

He said, “The outbreak occurred at about 10:15hrs when one Mr. Tobi summoned our men to the incident. On getting to the scene of the occurrence, the inferno was still raging and the sitting room affected  out of a story Building of about 4flats 2bedrooms each.

“However, we were able to display our professionalism and in no time the ravaging inferno was overcome, during the course of our investigation it was suspected to be an electric spark from The socket thereby ignited and caused the inferno.”

He quoted the Fire Service boss, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa (CFO) to have urged the general public “to be more safety conscious at all time and avoid leaving electrical gadgets on attended to particularly during this period”.
