The federal government on Tuesday March 21 dragged a popular Islamic cleric, Tukur Mamu, before a court on 10-count terrorism charge.
The Kaduna-based scholar was dragged before Justice Inyang Ekwo of a Federal High Court in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
This came several months after he was apprehended by the operatives of the Department of the State Services, DSS.
Mamu was arrested over offences that had to do with the gruesome attack on an Abuja-Kaduna train which caused the death of some persons and kidnap of several other persons.
He got apprehended on September 6, 2022 while he was en route Saudi Arabia from Egypt for Umrah, lesser Hajj.
The Informant247 observes that the suspect had negotiated on behalf of kidnapped victims of Kaduna train attack and influenced the freedom of some of them.
His arrest was fueled by the discovery of some military outfits and funds in his Kaduna residence during a raid.
The federal government accused him of aiding and abetting Boko Haram atrocities against the people of Nigeria.
He was accused of keeping the terrorism funds in his residence — an act which violates the provisions of Terrorism Prevention, Prohibition Act.
Mamu pleaded not guilty to all the charges against him.
Mamu’s lawyer, Mohammed Ndanusa persuaded the court to free his client arguing that he’s suffering from ailments that require medical attention and surgical operation.
The government’s lawyer, Aderonke Imana said all Mamu’s ailments can be treated by medical experts at the DSS hospital.
The Justice reserves the judgement till a date that will be communicated to the concerned parties, as he directed that Many should be in the custody of the DSS pending the ruling on the bail application.
