FG approves N1.334tr to begin second phase of Lagos-Calabar road

A sum of N1.334 trillion has been approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for constructing the Calabar-Akwa Ibom section of the Lagos-Calabar road.

The second phase of the project, aimed at enhancing easy and swift commuting interstate, is expected to cover a 65-kilometre (km) stretch from Calabar through to Akwa Ibom and another 65km between Lagos and Ogun state.

The Federal Executive Council also has approved the construction of other roads for easy access.

The statement reads: “The construction of the Calabar-Akwa Ibom section of the Lagos-Calabar road is set to commence as the Federal Executive Council, yesterday, approved a sum of N1.334 trillion for the project’s second phase.

“This will cover a 65km stretch starting from Calabar through Akwa Ibom and another 65km between Lagos and Ogun State.

“Other road project contracts approved for the Federal Ministry of Works include: Access Road to Delta State, the Second Niger Bridge in Anambra State, the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway (Phase 2, Section 1), the reconstruction of Lokoja-Benin Road, Ado-Ekiti–Igede Road Project, the Onitsha-Owerri expressway.

“The Wusasa-Jos route in Kaduna State, Abuja-Kano Highway, which has now been divided into two sections and to be fully constructed of concrete technology.”
