Killings: NEMA sends relief materials to Benue
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has mobilized vital relief materials to assist those displaced and impacted by the recent violence in the Yelwata community, Benue State.
According to a statement from NEMA’s Head of Press Unit, Manzo Ezekiel, this initiative follows a thorough needs assessment carried out in collaboration with the Benue State Emergency Management Agency, the Nigerian Red Cross Society, and essential security agencies.
“The Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, has activated the Agency’s North Central Zonal Office, under the leadership of Zonal Director Mr. Aliyu Waziri, to oversee the prompt distribution of the relief items in coordination with Benue SEMA,” the statement revealed.
In her directive, Umar emphasized the need for a comprehensive evaluation of the affected population and infrastructure to identify further assistance requirements.
The relief materials dispatched include food and non-food items such as bags of parboiled rice, maize, spaghetti, vegetable oil, seasoning cubes, tomato paste, iodised salt, and mattresses.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with all stakeholders to ease the hardships faced by victims and work towards restoring normalcy in the affected areas. As of Monday, NEMA reported that at least 6,527 individuals, including lactating mothers, pregnant women, and elderly citizens, have been displaced due to the recent attacks in the region.
