Farmer remanded in prison over alleged murder
A farmer, Agwaza Agber, was on Friday remanded over alleged killing of a Kindred Head.
He was remanded on the order of a Makurdi Magistrates’ Court on Friday over alleged killing of a Kindred Head.
Agber, who resides in Mbaayo village, Tarka L.G.A of Benue was charged by the police with culpable homicide, conspiracy and armed robbery.
Mrs Erdoo Ter, the Magistrate, rejected the plea of Agber for want of jurisdiction.
Erdoo directed that Agber be remanded in Makurdi Correctional facility while police investigations still progressed.
She has adjourned the matter until January 24 for further mention.
Sgt. Regina Ishaya, the Prosecution Counsel, earlier informed the court that the case was brought to the awareness of the law enforcement agents by Samuel Nyitse residing at Tse-Nyitse Mbaayo village, Tarka L.G.A Benue on November 7.
Ishaya revealed that five men heavily armed and all with face masks launched an attack on the brother of the complainant, Aondoaver Nyitse, who doubles as the kindred head of Mbakiyi Mbaayo.
The police also narrated that the suspects dispossessed the deceased man of one Tecno L6 handset, N6,000 and a Bajaj motorcycle not yet registered.
She said the suspect was apprehended for carrying out the crime.
She added that the police investigation into the matter is in progress.
She said that the offence was in contravention of sections 97 and 222 of the Penal Code laws of Benue 2004 and Section 1(1)(2)(a)(b) of the robbery and firearms special provision act 2004.
