Fans knock Paseiro as Super Eagles drop five spots in new FIFA ranking.

The Super Eagles for the first time under new manager Jose Peseiro in the latest FIFA rankings released on Thursday dropped five spots from 35th position to 40th.

The three times AFCON kings dropped five places to 40th position in the world and now 6th in Africa.

Nigeria’s decline in the rankings came after failing to seal an AFCON 2023 slot with two matches to spear, following the shocking defeat to Guinea Bissau Wild Dogs in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Peseiro-led side lost the first leg by a lone goal in Abuja, thus making it a fourth consecutive defeat, although later won the reverse fixture in Bissau with the 1-0.

Not only that setback places Nigeria as the sixth-best team in Africa, with Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria, and Egypt ahead of them, as the top 5 best-ranked African teams, the country also recorded their lowest ranking since June 2019.

Reacting on social media, one of the famous sports journalist, Oga nla media said

“Nigeria (Super Eagles) has dropped to 6th in Africa and 40th in the FIFA latest World ranking.Jose Peseiro taking us to location wey we no sabi ?”
