Fan writes open letter to Kane as he makes last debut for spurs

Tottenham Hotspurs striker Harry Kane has received an open letter from a fan ahead of his final appearance for the team on sunday.

The 28-year-old wants to leave the club in pursuit of glory and Manchester City are the frontrunners to sign the top scoring striker.

Kane has only returned to training after his holiday, which he was said to be late back from and it’s still unclear whether he will start.

According to Talksports, the  Tottenham fan wrote on Twitter .

“Dear Harry,

How did we get here, eh?

The eve of a new season should bring with it a sense of optimism, excitement and a collective sense of togetherness as supporters. But here, we as Spurs fans are feeling more distant from you than ever before.

The last two weeks have been, quite frankly, an absolute mess. Unfortunately, the blame for that lies almost solely at your door.

We may never know the exact truth behind that absent week, and if we’re being honest, your heavily delayed statement didn’t really make us feel any better.

I’ll be honest, we don’t begrudge you the move one bit. You thoroughly deserve to be part of a team pushing for trophies, something the leadership at our club haven’t been able to deliver. You’re not blameless in our disappointing pursuit of glory, but a player of your wonderful ability merited equally gifted players around you. That’s something we can all agree on.

As our wonderful previous manager Mauricio Pochettino once said, there’s no point in having a beautiful house if you’ve not got the furniture to match. You, my friend, were a brand new leather sofa on a carpet with holes in it.

In a bizarre turn of events, our very first game of the campaign is against the team you’re very much pushing to join. So how is Sunday going to play out? Well, as fans, we can only ask this of you.

If you’re involved, I’m warning you now, mate, there will be some boos when your name is read out. Rightly or wrongly, there are fans that now feel that way about you. There’s no way around it.

So, what can you do to counteract it? Just turn up. If you score, celebrate. If you walk out in the starting XI, clap the fans. At the full time whistle, clap once more. It’s not a lot to ask, but we deserve at the very least a bit of love back after an utterly miserable summer.

If not for us (who warrant this affection at the very least), but for our new gaffer. Nuno, the poor bugger, has done his utmost to prepare his squad as best as possible for the new year ahead. Your actions this summer have cast a rather unfortunate shadow over his preparations. For as long as you are part of his team, giving your all for that Lilywhite shirt, which you have done for so long, is all we can ask.

So Harry, I’ll leave you with this. If this is indeed the end, you’ve been a blast. Players like you come around once in a lifetime, and it’s been a privilege to see you climb to the top with the Tottenham badge on your chest. This isn’t the end we deserved, nor wanted, but if this is goodbye, let’s end it the right way.

Always yours,
Spurs fans.
