One of the attendees who sustained severe injuries at the O2 Brixton concert by the popular Nigerian singer, Asake has died.
The Informant247 gathered that the Nigerian singer staged a performance of his debut album at the 4900-capacity O2 Academy in Brixton.
A crowd of thousands breached the doors which resulted in a stampede, and eventually the cancellation of the concert.
Some of the attendees sustained various degrees of serious injuries.
At least 8 persons were rushed to the hospital.
The veteran singer in a statement released on Saturday said he’s “devastated” after receiving the news of the death of one Rebecca Ikumelo.
The singer has sent his wishes to the family of the deceased and implored his lovers to keep praying for her.
He has added that the circumstances that led to the stampede are under investigation.
“I am devastated by the news that Rebecca Ikumelo, who was in a critical condition since Thursday has sadly passed away,” the singer wrote.
“My sincerest condolences to her loved ones at this time. Let us please keep her family in our prayers. I have spoken to them and will continue to do so.
“I am overwhelmed with grief and could never have imagined anything like this happening.
“My team and I are still awaiting the full debrief back from the venue management and the police to determine what exactly led to all the disruption caused and ultimately to Rebecca’s passing.
“If you have any relevant information relating to this please do reach out to the metropolitan police.”
While reacting to the incident, the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, revealed that 4 of the 8 victims of the stampede who were rushed to the hospital were in “critical condition”.
The mayor also said: “I’m heartbroken that this could happen to young Londoners enjoying a night out.”
