EXCLUSIVE: Amb. Yahaya Seriki narrowly escapes attack

Amb. Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki, Chairman of Kursi Investment Limited and a leading governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State, on Thursday suspended a planned trip to Ilorin owing to an impromptu international business engagement, sources familiar with the development have said.

Seriki was expected in Ilorin for a meeting involving APC stakeholders and governorship aspirants as consultations within the ruling party continue ahead of the 2027 political season.

Sources disclosed that the businessman had initially planned to arrive earlier in the day but was delayed by an impromptu international engagement, which altered his movement schedule.

According to sources close to the development, concerns heightened after his official vehicle was reportedly attacked around Tanke Junction by unidentified persons who allegedly believed he was inside the convoy at the time.

However, Seriki was not in the vehicle during the incident.

A source familiar with the situation said the development informed the decision by his security team to advise against proceeding with the trip.

“His safety and that of supporters remain the priority. Based on the security situation and advice available at the time, it was considered appropriate to suspend the trip,” the source said.

Supporters and associates who had gathered in anticipation of his arrival were subsequently informed of the change in plans.

Additional security measures are also said to have been put in place around the businessman and philanthropist.

Meanwhile, the APC stakeholders’ meeting earlier scheduled for Thursday was later postponed by the party for separate internal reasons, although no official explanation was publicly given.

Efforts to reach Amb. Yahaya Seriki for comments were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.

Widely regarded as one of the prominent figures in the APC succession conversation in Kwara State, Seriki has in recent months intensified consultations and engagements across different parts of the state.
