Ex-Super Eagles striker Eneramo dies on football field in Kaduna

A former Super Eagles striker, Micheal Eneramo has died after collapsing while playing football on a field in Kaduna.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed the ex-international’s death on Friday.

The 40-year-old was said to be playing a local friendly match on a pitch in Ungwan Yelwa, Kaduna, when he slumped a few minutes after the start of the second half.

Eneramo’s debut for Nigeria was against Jamaica in a friendly match in London on February 11 2009, which ended goalless.

He is reputed for scoring his first goal for Nigeria against the Republic of Ireland in a 1-1 draw in London on May 29, 2009.

Eneramo scored one of the most important goals that sealed the 2010 World Cup qualification for Nigeria. He scored a late goal as the Eagles eked out a 2-2 draw at home against Tunisia.

He had 10 caps for the Eagles before quitting the team in 2011.

Born in Kaduna in 1985, Eneramo began his professional career with Lobi Stars of Markudi. He then went on to play in Tunisia and Turkey before hanging up his boots in 2018.
