ENetSuD commends Auditor-General of Kwara local govts for transparency
The Elites Network for Sustainable Development (ENetSuD), the anti-corruption Civil Society Organization known for promoting good governance, transparency, and accountability, has commended the Auditor-General for Local Governments in Kwara State, Mrs. Ramat Remi Sulyman for transparency.
In a letter signed by the Coordinator (Dr. Alagbonsi Abdullateef), ENetSuD informed the Auditor-General that her 769-page report of the year 2020 was subjected to a thorough analysis and examination in order to simplify all the finances of the 16 LGs for citizens through infographics, a compendium of which was also submitted to her.
“We focused our analysis on 2020 report so as to follow the trend of LGs administration under the present government of His Excellency, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and this is a baseline data that will guide us in our yearly analysis, which we shall continue to do annually with our new project tagged #KwaraLGFunds.”, Alagbonsi said.
ENetSuD praised the Auditor-General for her diligence and meticulousness. “Having analyzed your beautiful report, we are motivated to commend your office for the diligence, thoroughness, and meticulousness that you displayed in the preparation of the report. Your diligence manifested in the accuracy of figures and arithmetic, in addition to the fact that the report speaks for itself without ambiguity. This is a good job, we must say.”
“As a Civil Society Organization that is tracking how Kwara money is spent, we found your report highly
useful, educative, informative and explanatory, the publication of which is promoting transparency and accountability in Kwara State. We urge you to sustain this practice, as citizens’ access to public information on how taxpayers’ money is spent is part of the gains of democracy and the responsibility of any civilized government.
ENetSuD stated that the Auditor-General deserves more than a letter but urge her to take it in good faith. “You deserve more than a commendation letter, but we do not have the capacity to do more than this at the moment. We hope that our appreciation of your good work will encourage your office to keep up your diligence and meticulousness.”
While receiving the letter, Mrs. Sulyman appreciated the gesture of ENetSuD. “Thank you so much, my family. I called you my family because you are a partner in progress for the betterment of the 16 LGs and Kwara State at large. I appreciate you.”
“The Governor didn’t tell us that we should not audit the 16 LGs or we should not make everything as clear as possible because he knows that he’s not taking anything from their money. Even the joint allocation they are doing is set aside to allow them to share their money the way they want”, she added.
She explained how her office has been touring the 16 LGs to monitor their projects and ensure that proper things are done.
The Auditor-General said, “Our job is to monitor and ensure that their money gets to the appropriate hand, and the jobs they are supposed to do are done accordingly.”
