Efforts ongoing to expand water infrastructure, rehabilitate existing facilities – Kwara govt
The Kwara State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding water infrastructure and rehabilitating existing facilities to ensure sustainable access to clean water for residents.
Speaking on the occasion of World Water Day 2025, the Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Usman Yunusa Lade, emphasised that water remains a fundamental human right and a key driver of health, economic growth, and environmental sustainability.
He highlighted ongoing projects under the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, including the construction and rehabilitation of waterworks across the state.
Among these are the Oyun Waterworks, which will supply Ijagbo, Offa, and Ajase-Ipo; Omu-Aran Waterworks, serving Omu-Aran town and its environs; Otte/Budo-Egba Waterworks for Otte and its surroundings; and Sobi Waterworks, which caters to Akerebiata, Shao, and Sobi Barracks.
Hon. Lade further noted that strategic investments have improved access to potable water in both urban and rural areas.
He explained that the Western reservoir is now supplying water to communities such as Adewole, Pakata, Anifowoshe, Okekere, and Alore, while the FGC tank serves Ogidi, Oloje, and Oja-Oba, among others.
The Eastern reservoir, he added, is providing water to GRA, UITH, and the Oke-Ose axis.
Additionally, he assured residents that repairs and maintenance on key water channels would soon be completed, ensuring improved supply to areas like Flower Garden, Sabo Oke, Maraba, and Agbaji.
Acknowledging challenges in underserved communities, the Commissioner reaffirmed the government’s commitment to bridging these gaps.
He called on residents to support responsible water use and protect water infrastructure from vandalism, stressing that collective efforts would help achieve a reliable water supply for all.
