Economic Self-Reliance: Senator Ashiru reactivates Alajobi cooperative with N20 million grant
Senator Lola Ashiru, Deputy Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate representing Kwara South, took a significant step toward enhancing economic self-reliance in the region by injecting a substantial sum of N20 million into the ALAJOBI support group under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This initiative aimed to empower the community and combat the economic hardships faced by his constituents.
The funds were put to use in various ways, including the purchase of five tricycles and three motorcycles, which were distributed among ALAJOBI members. Additionally, cash grants were provided to certain members to kickstart their entrepreneurial ventures.
Senator Ashiru emphasized that this intervention was part of an ongoing effort to create wealth and foster economic independence within the community. He stated, “This is the best palliative we can give to our people to combat the prevailing state of economic hardship and hunger.”
Representing the Senator, Hon. Hammed Omuiyadun explained that ALAJOBI had been reactivated and transformed into the Alajobi Multi-purpose Cooperative Society.
According to Omuiyadun, the move is aimed to empower members through structured guidelines, with ongoing support from Senator Ashiru.
Furthermore, beneficiaries were encouraged not to sell the assets provided to them but rather reinvest in the society to benefit others.
Omuiyadun explained that the Senator Ashiru has been responding to specific needs of community members, ranging from transportation support to business grants, fostering a sense of economic security.
The Offa Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) Chairman, Honourable Thomas Jare Olatundun, praised Senator Ashiru’s commitment to his constituents and highlighted the significance of this initiative in various local government areas within the Kwara South Senatorial District.
Ekiti Local Government was set to host the next edition of the Alajobi Multi-purpose Cooperative intervention, further strengthening the impact of this initiative.
