The Ebonyi State Police have reportedly killed gunmen suspected to be members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)/Eastern Security Network (ESN) during a raid on the gunmen’s camp on Wednesday while also arrested one and recovered thirteen military handgrenades suspected to have been fabricated in Russia and other items.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Ebonyi, Chris Anyanwu said men of the Tactical Team swooped on the camp in Umuleje Amaeze, Nkalaha in Ishielu Local Government Area.
Anyanwu said the arrested suspect, who is assisting the Police in the investigation, led the team to the hideout of the hoodlums in a thick forest.
The suspect told the police there were many IPOB/ESN camps within and around the state.
The Police Command spokesperson said the hoodlums saw the first set of the operatives and opened fire on them.
The Tactical Team cordoned off the area and subdued the suspects with superior fire power.
According to him, two of the hoodlums had fatal bullet injuries, two were neutralised, while others fled.
IPOB had always maintained that it remained a non-violent organisation fighting for freedom through the actualisation of an independent Republic of Biafra.
