Ebonyi Gov increases salary of newly recruited medical doctors to N500k

In a significant move to bolster healthcare in Ebonyi State, Governor Francis Nwifuru has declared a salary increment for newly employed medical doctors in all primary healthcare facilities, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to improving the health sector.

During the Flag-off of health activation, aimed at paving the way for a drug revolving fund and distribution of medical equipment to general hospitals, Nwifuru revealed that the government has invested over N10 billion in upgrading health facilities, equipment, and manpower throughout the state.

“This event is not just a ceremony—it is a declaration of our administration’s commitment to revitalizing the healthcare system of our dear state,” Nwifuru stated. He underscored the efforts made to address critical human resource gaps, noting the recruitment of 195 healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and laboratory scientists.

The governor also introduced the Drug Revolving Fund, which aims to ensure the continuous availability of essential medications in hospitals. He remarked, “This initiative guarantees sustainability, transparency, and accountability,” especially for rural communities that will now have access to quality medicines at affordable rates.

In addition to personnel and funding, Nwifuru highlighted the distribution of modern medical equipment, noting its essential role in delivering effective healthcare services. “These are not for decoration; they are instruments of life-saving service,” he asserted, describing the investment of over one billion naira as a milestone for the health sector.

Addressing the importance of community involvement, Nwifuru called on traditional rulers and civil society to help monitor and protect these healthcare investments. “Let the health facilities belong to the people,” he urged, reinforcing the necessity of accountability in managing public resources.

Looking to the future, Nwifuru outlined plans to establish specialist hospitals across the three senatorial zones and pursue partnerships for healthcare financing and digital health systems. “Today is a new dawn for health in Ebonyi. Let this flag-off be a call to action—to our health workers, our communities, and every stakeholder,” he concluded, emphasizing the collective effort needed to build a resilient healthcare system.
