The Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Kayode Egbetokun, has directed the deployment of police personnel and operational assets nationwide in anticipation of potential security threats during the 2024 Easter celebration.
This directive was disclosed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement released in Abuja.
The Inspector-General emphasized the need for round-the-clock security and protection of public spaces across the country before, during, and after the Easter festivities.
Commissioners of Police (CPs) and their supervising Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) have been instructed to deploy personnel and operational assets to areas deemed vulnerable within their respective areas of responsibility (AoRs).
Intensive and proactive visibility patrols will be conducted at worship centers, train stations, highways, motor parks, airports, waterways, recreation centers, banks, and other critical infrastructures.
Travelers visiting their hometowns and other destinations within the country for the celebrations are assured of adequate security measures, regardless of their mode of transportation.
Mr. Egbetokun assured the public that security arrangements have been enhanced to cover passengers traveling by road, air, waterways, or rail. Deployments have been bolstered, and visibility patrols intensified, including aerial surveillance.
As Nigerians mark the Easter celebrations, the Inspector-General extended his felicitations, particularly to the Christian community, while commending citizens for their support and cooperation with the Nigeria Police and other security agencies.
