DSS denies arresting EFCC boss, Magu

Magu was only invited for questioning – Magu’s aide

Journalists barred from covering Magu’s probe

The Department of State Services has discredited a purported report that it had arrested the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu.

It was earlier reported that the antigraft boss had been arrested by operatives of the DSS over corruption allegations.

But the DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, said, “The Department of State Services (DSS) wishes to inform the public that it did not arrest Ibrahim MAGU, Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as has been reported by sections of the media. The Service, has since, today, 6th July, 2020, been inundated with enquiries over the alleged arrest.”

According to Magu’s spokesperson, Tony Amokeodo, he said that his principal was only invited by the DSS for questioning.

In the latest development, The Nation Newspaper gathered that men of the Department of State Service (DSS) on Monday barred journalists from gaining access to Conference Centre of the State House where the Acting EFCC boss was being interrogated.

Officers of the DSS, many of whom had been stationed within the premises of the Conference Centre, asked journalists to vacate the premises.

“They said you people should excuse the use of this place for today,” a security official detailed to the venue, politely told reporters,” a DSS official ordered.
