DSS bows to pressure, confirms arrest of ousted CBN Governor, Emefiele
The Department of State Services has admitted to arresting the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Governor, Godwin Emefiele, saying he is now in its custody.
This is coming some hours after the Department of State Services (DSS) denied the report that the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, is in its custody.
The DSS, through its official Twitter handle, made this known on Saturday, June 10, 2023.
The post read, “Currently, Emefiele is not with the DSS.”
The Informant247 had earlier reported that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Friday, suspended Godwin Emefiele, the Central Bank Governor, from office with immediate effect.
According to Willie Bassey, the Director of Information, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, in a statement, said that the suspension of the CBN governor was based on the investigation as well as the planned reforms in the financial sector.
Bassey added that Emefiele had been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate) pending the conclusion of the investigation and the reforms.
The statement partly read, ” President Bola Tinubu has suspended the Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, from office with immediate effect
“This is sequel to the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy.
“Emefiele has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of the investigation and the reforms.”
