‘Dirty politics’: Stop using Offa robbery to blackmail Saraki, PDP tells AbdulRazaq
The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq of engaging in “dirty politics” over an alleged move to reopen the Offa robbery case to blackmail former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki.
The party made the allegation on Friday during a press conference in Ilorin, describing the move as “desperate” and politically motivated.
Speaking through its State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, the PDP said the attempt to revisit the case was aimed at tarnishing Saraki’s image and misleading the public.
“This is dirty politics taken too far. It is insensitive and dangerous to politicise a tragedy like the Offa robbery for cheap gains,” the party said.
The PDP insisted that there is no evidence linking Saraki to the 2018 robbery, noting that investigations by the Nigerian Police and legal advice from the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation cleared him of any involvement.
It added that suspects in the case had already been prosecuted and convicted, with the matter currently before the Supreme Court.
The party further alleged that the move was a diversion from rising insecurity and governance challenges in the state.
“The governor is only trying to distract Kwarans from his failures. This is not about justice, but politics,” the statement added.
The PDP also called on security agencies to monitor the situation and prevent any breakdown of law and order.
It urged residents of Offa, especially victims of the incident, to reject what it described as an attempt to exploit their pain for political purposes.
“Kwara must not be dragged into crisis for anyone’s political survival,” the party said.
