Delta State retains National Sports festival trophy
Delta State has again emerged the winner of the National Sports festival after finishing top of the finals medal table of the event hosted by the State.
The state maintained their dominance over the ‘Nigeria Olympics’ by winning 320 gold, 200 silver and 128 bronze medal making it a total of 648 medals.
Second on the final medals table are Bayelsa State who amassed 132 Gold, 115 Silver and 90 bronze to make it a total of 337 medals.
In third position was Edo State with 78 Gold, 94, silver and 167 bronze making a total of 339 medals. Oyo, Lagos, Rivers, Kano, Ogun, FCT and Akwa Ibom completes the top 10 states.
Nasarawa, Bauchi, Ebonyi, Kebbi, Ekiti, Taraba, Jigawa Sokoto, Gombe and Zamfara with no gold medal won occupied the bottom of the medals log after the 10 days multi-sport event.
Delta State has proven over the years that it is the number one state in sports in the country and the victory on home soil made it the eighth time that the state is winning the sports festival in 10 appearances.
The next National Sports Festival will be hosted by Ogun State in 2024.
