In its bid to join forces and work together to prosecute the 2019 election, the Senator Bukola Saraki led structure and the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state will next week set up a committee to work out modalities allocation of positions and appointments, National Pilot reliably gathered last night.
Saraki last week defected to the PDP after spending over four years in the APC citing failure of the party to practice internal democracy.
The committee, described as “integration committee” will comprise of members from the two camps with a view to aggregate interests and work together to ensure the PDP deliver the state in the 2019 election.
It was not clear the exact date the proposed committee will be inaugurated but a top source who is in the know about the development told this medium that everything was set for this week.
Also, it could not be confirmed the number of party members that would be drafted to serve in the committee or the criteria for their selection.
Billed to top the agenda of the discussion when the committee comes on stream, it was further learnt, was the sharing formula that will be adopted for the allocation of portfolios as well as the elective offices for members.
The reintegration process is seen as a major step towards the PDP’s resolve to unite against the APC and the Buhari’s administration in the state against the 2019 race.
Although, the sharing formula that will be adopted was still unclear last night, the national leadership of the party had reportedly proposed a 60-40 ratio for governors and top leaders of the party with strong structures on ground across the country irrespective of whether the newly defected.
According to the source, “We have been assured of fair play, justice, equity and by next week, a committee will be put in place comprising our members that have been in the party and theirs that are just coming to work on the reintegration proper and the sharing of portfolios.
“This committee is saddled with the responsibility to also come up with mechanism of how we’re going to share the elective positions. This week, the committee will be constituted and hopefully, within the next two weeks, we are going to have a united PDP in Kwara state which will be very formidable”.
He lauded the Senate President, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed and other stakeholders for upholding peace and good relationship among members of the political parties in the state.
“The relationship we’ve been having with the Senate President and the Governor has been cordial, there is peace among members of the political class in the State and i can tell you that the party will be very solid going ahead.”
The state chapter of the PDP is yet to have a chairman or spokesperson after the defection of Saraki and Governor Ahmed pushed its former executive to the APC.
The Ishola Balogun Fulani led APC faction has maintained it is still the authentic one in the state and subsequently got a court order retraining the Basheer Bolarinwa faction from parading itself as the authentic one.
Following the defection of Saraki to the PDP and the entire Senators and House of Representatives members from the state, the national leadership of the party dissolve the Kwara executive and put in place an interim body chaired by former APC factional chairman, Bolarinwa.
