Dangote driver sent to prison over illegal activities
A Dangote Group driver has been sent to prison for illegal activities.
Anthony Chiejina, the Chief Communications Officer, made the announcement of the staff member’s prosecution via a statement.
The Dangote Group has been alleged on several occasions, of not taking reports against its drivers seriously.
The widespread criticisms that went viral on social media, compelled the company to take tougher measures.
The Chief Communications Officer revealed that the Patrol Team of the Drivers caught some for involving in unapproved activities and moved them to agencies of government for trial.
The spokesperson added that he was subsequently dragged to a Magistrate Court in Akwanga, Nasarawa, over criminal breach of trust.
The convict has been sent to four months jail term after pleading guilty.
The magistrate ordered the freedom of the truck and sent message of advice to the company to file a civil case against the owner of the goods’.
In another case, a third party truck with Dangote logo was found inside a private company yard in Ode Remo, Ogun, while offloading granite.
The case was reported at the Ode Remo police station which resulted in the arrest of the driver. He has been charged to court.
Last month, it was reported the interception of a Dangote Cement truck smuggling foreign parboiled rice.
Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Ogun Area 1 Commander, Bamidele Makinde said the vehicle was loaded with 75 (50kg) bags of rice.
The consignment, concealed with 900 bags of cement, was intercepted along the Ibeshe road in Yewa North Local Government Area on August 21.
