Cross River Assembly speaker impeached over alleged misconduct
The Cross River State House of Assembly Speaker, Hon. Elvert Ayambem, has been impeached.
According to Vanguard newspaper, Ayambem was removed early Wednesday by his colleagues due to alleged gross misconduct and administrative high-handedness.
Sources indicate that the plot to oust Ayambem had been in motion for months, with members expressing dissatisfaction with his conduct and leadership style. As of Tuesday, 17 members had signed up for his impeachment.
The motion for Ayambem’s removal was moved on the House floor by Hon. Effiong Ekarika, representing Calabar South 1, and seconded by Charles Omang. Following the impeachment, the members took away the mace.
