COVID-19: Nigerian youth form alliance to tackle spread of fake news

Some Nigeria youths have formed an alliance to do more in tackling the spread of fake news amid the fight against community transmission of the novel coronavirus by the Nigerian government.

The group made this known in a press statement issued by its head, Olasupo Abideen, on Monday, in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital and sent THE INFORMANT247.

The statement reads in part, “Work started on March 21, 2020 across social media platforms using visual, audio, and verbal communication styles, infused in our various multimedia presentations. We are now moving from just SM to a fully functional website where all our verified information will be updated on as they happen. Our database will include contact tracing, mapping, contact details of various state disease control organisations, etc.

“We will create a relief hypothetical test that will create a scoring pattern for people to know if to take Paracetamol or call NCDC for COVID-19 testing.

“Our aim is to help the Nigerian government in reducing fake news, while sharing positivity to Nigerian. Within the last 9 days of using our SM platforms, our over 100 volunteers have reached not less than a million Nigerians, and we are only just starting.”

The group further seek the support of members of the public on donations and sharing it content to reach a wide audience.
