Court stops OSIEC from conducting Osun LG election

An Osogbo Federal High Court has directed the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) to stop the preparation of the local government elections.

The court has informed the state electoral umpire not to conduct the local government elections.

The OSIEC on August 15, 2022, revealed its plans to conduct a local government election in Osun state on October 15, of the same year.

It declared that the election poll was in line with the newly signed OSIEC law.

However, the main opposition party in the state, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took the electoral Commission to court and declared plans to boycott the poll if OSIEC conducted the election.

The Osun PDP had also announced an allegation that it was needless for the Governor of the state, Gboyega Oyetola to give room for the conduct of the election now.

This order of the court came following the commencement of training for ad-hoc staff of the commission for the October 15 local government election.
