Court sentences driver to 3 years imprisonment over stealing, breach of trust

A 20-year-old driver, Hassan Ahmed, in Jos on Tuesday was sentenced to three years imprisonment over stealing, cheating and breach of trust.

David Damulak who’s the judge sentenced Ahmed after pleading guilty to the three-count charge.

The judge has given the convict an option of N200,000 fine.

The judge has also directed the convict to pay a compensation of N250,000 to the complainant.

The court established that the judgment would serve as lesson to those who who would want to involve themselves in such criminal acts.

Insp Ibrahim Gokwat, the prosecutor counsel, earlier informed the court that the matter was reported on Aug. 29 at the Laranto Police station by the complainant, one Jamilu Jibril.

Gokwat said that the convict was given a truck with the agreement to make monthly returns, but instead, decided to park the truck, took out the tyres and sold them out.

“The driver also ran away with a balance of N860, 000 meant to be the cash return on the business,” the prosecutor said.

The prosecutor narrated that the convict confessed to selling two tyres for N120,000.

The prosecutor added that the offence, was in contravention of the provisions of Section 297, 307 and 272 of Plateau Penal Code Law.
