Court sentences driver to 12 months imprisonment for theft, house breaking in Jos

Babangida Isa, a 29-year old commercial driver, was on Monday sentenced to 12 months imprisonment for stealing and house breaking in Jos.

The convict was given an option of N40,000 fine.

The convict has been directed to pay a compensation of N70,000 to the complainants or made use of another six months in prison.

The court established that the judgment would serve as lesson to those who who would want to involve themselves in such criminal acts.

The convict was sentenced by a panel of two magistrates, Adam Sadiq and Hyacinth Dolnaan.

The convict has pleaded guilty to the offence.

Insp. Monday Dabit, who’s the prosecution counsel, earlier informed the court that the matter was reported on Augt. 28 at the Laranto Police station by the complainants, one Naomi Jacob and Sarah Tijani.

The prosecutor narrated that the convict entered the house and unlawfully took away some items, which include phones, wrappers and a cash of N45,000.

The prosecutor added that the offence, was in contravention of the provisions of sections 59, 332 and 273 of Plateau Penal Code and punishable by same.
