The Court of Appeal did not answer the prayer of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi, as it turned down his request to stop the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC from reconfiguring the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).
The court on Wednesday March 8, 2023 refused to stop the electoral commission from reconfiguring the BVAS ahead of the governorship and House of Assembly elections scheduled for Saturday, March 11, 2023.
The 3 member panel of the court of appeal who were led by Joseph Ikyegh, held that stopping the electoral umpire from reconfiguring the BVAS would hinder the progress and conduct of the March 11 elections.
The Informant247 recalls that the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi, in an application requested an order of the court “restraining the 1st respondent (INEC) from tampering with the information embedded in the BVAS machines until the due inspection is conducted and certified true copies (CTC) of them issued”.
