Court discharges, acquits ex-Jigawa Gov. Turaki of N8.3Bn fraud charges

A Jigawa Federal High Court has discharged and acquitted the former Governor of the state, Senator Ibrahim Saminu Turaki.

The former Governor has been acquitted of the N8.3 billion corruption charges leveled against him by the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The former Governor, Turaki, and 3 Companies have been facing trial since May 4, 2007.

The anti-graft agency has taken the duo to court over a 33-count charge.

The 33 count charge has been standing trial for diversifying and misappropriating state funds.

Justice Hassan Dikko, who’s the presiding judge, struck out all charges leveled against the former Governor and discharged all the accused.

The federal high court has further directed that the documents of travel of the 1st accused person should be handed over to him with immediate effect.

While reacting to the verdict of the judge, Saidu Muhammad Tudunwada, one of the defence counsels of Saminu Turaki, said the Justice has been served and it is a victory for all.
