Collaborative efforts essential in curbing drug abuse among youths, says Kwara Commissioner

The Commissioner for Social Development, Hajia Mariam Nnafatima Imam, PhD, has emphasized the need for active collaboration with the Management of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, to combat societal issues affecting the youth in the State.

During a courtesy visit from a delegate of the Polytechnic, Commissioner Imam stated, “Collaborative efforts will lead to quicker outcomes of our campaigns against drug abuse and other anti-social behaviors that impact the youth physically and emotionally.”

She highlighted the integral role educational institutions play in advancing the State Government’s agenda for a drug-free society, expressing optimism that significant progress could be achieved in a short period. “I urge the Management of the Polytechnic to join forces with the State Government in enhancing educational campaigns on the dangers of drug abuse,” she said, reaffirming her commitment to fulfilling the Ministry’s mandate swiftly.

The Commissioner expressed confidence in the Polytechnic’s support in the fight against drug abuse, referring to the institution as an ideal setting for skills acquisition.

Mr. Peter Kayode Ayanwale, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, commended Kwara State Polytechnic for its initiatives to support Persons Living With Disabilities, urging for more opportunities to ensure equal access to formal education for everyone.

Rector Engr. (Dr.) Abdul Jimoh Mohammed also praised Commissioner Imam for her proactive approach since her appointment, expressing gratitude for her unwavering support for the Polytechnic’s mission. against drug abuse, referring to the institution as an ideal setting for skills acquisition.
